How to say I have in Amharic: Learn Amharic Phrases

When you want to express that you have something in the Amharic language, you would say “አለኝ.” The word “አለኝ (have)” has another meaning in Amharic, so we will look at it as well. But first, let’s move on to how we use the word “አለኝ/I have” for all nine Amharic pronouns.

1. 1. 1. አለኝ / Alegni = I have
      2. አለን / Alen = We have
      3. አለሽ / Aleshi = You have
      4. አለህ / Aleh = You have
      5. አላችሁ / Alachihu = You have.
      6. አላት / Alat = She has
      7. አለው / Alew = He has
      8. አላቸው / Alachew = They have.
      9. አለዎት / Alewot  = You have (formal for male and female)

Let’s build additional Amharic sentences using the phrases “አለኝ / I have.”

• 1. እኔ ስራ አለኝ። Ene sra alegni. (I have a job.)
  2. እኛ አንድ ወንድም አለን። Egna and wondim alen. (We have a brother.)
  3. አንች መረጃው አለሽ። Anchi merejaw aleshi. (You have the information.)
  4. አንተ ጥሩ ሞያ አለህ። Ante tiru moya aleh. (You have a good profession.)
  5. እናንተ ጥሩ ግንኙነት አላችሁ። Enante tiru ginignunet alachihu. (You have a good relationship.)
  6. እሷ ጥሩ ተሞክሮ አላት። Esua tiru temokiro alat. (She has a good experience.)
  7. እሱ ጥሩ ስብዕና አለው። Esu tiru sibiena alew. (He has a good personality.)
  8. እነሱ ገንዘብ አላቸው። Enesu genzeb alachew. (They have money.)
  9. እርስዎ ገንዘብ አለዎት። Erswo genzeb alewot. (You have money.)

The word “አለኝ” has two meanings in Amharic. When we pronounce the word tightly, it indicates ownership, but when we utter it in a relaxed manner, its meaning will totally change. Look at these examples closely:

1. አለኝ / Alegni = He said to me.
2. አለን / Alen = He said to we.
3. አለሽ / Aleshi = He said to you.
4. አለህ / Aleh = He said to you.
5. አላችሁ / Alachihu = He said to you.
6. አላት / Alat = He said to her.
7. አለው / Alew = He said to him.
8. አላቸው / Alachew = He said to them.
9. አለዎት / Alewot  =  He said to him.
