Learn Amharic Subjective Pronouns and Be Verb Agreement and Amharic Tenses
Subject-verb agreement means that a subject and its verb must be both singular or both plural. Verbs must agree with subjects in number and in person (1st, 2nd, 3rd). For example, it is not correct to say “እሷ ነው / She is” but “እሱ ነው / he is.” Also, it is not correct to say in Amharic እሱ ናት / he is but “እሷ ናት or ነች / she is.” The point is this: If you want to denote a male, you should use the be verb “ነው,” which means he “is.” And when you want to denote a female, you should use the be verb “ናት or ነች,” which means “she is.” This is what “Subject and be verb agreement” means.
A singular subject takes a singular verb. A plural subject takes a plural verb.
