Amharic Sentences Building Lesson one
Let’s start by learning some essential Amharic words and then use them to form sentences.
Vocabulary:
-
ዛሬ (zare) – today
-
ስለምንድን (sələmənədən) – about what
-
ነው (näw) – is, are, am
-
የምንማረው (yəmənəmäräw) – what we learn / something we learn
Forming a Sentence:
Now, let’s put these words together in a question:
ዛሬ ስለምንድን ነው የምንማረው?
(Zare sələmənədən näw yəmənəmäräw?)
What are we learning about today?
Key Grammar Tip:
In Amharic, verbs typically come at the end of the sentence. This is a crucial rule to remember as you build your sentences.
For example, you can also structure the question like this (keeping the verb at the end):
ስለምንድን ነው ዛሬ የምንማረው?
(Sələmənədən näw zare yəmənəmäräw?)
What are we learning about today?
Example Answer:
ዛሬ የምንማረው ስለ አረፍተ ነገር አመሰራረት ነው።
(Zare yəmənəmäräw səlä aräftä nəgär amäsärat näw.)
Today, we are learning about sentence structure.
Why This Matters:
Understanding where verbs are placed in Amharic will help you construct sentences correctly. Practice rearranging words while keeping the verb at the end to reinforce this rule.
