Selam! 👋 Welcome back to our Amharic Words series, video 5! In today’s lesson, you’ll learn 7 Amharic basic words that begin with the letter ሆ—‘Ho.’ And there is also a short quiz at the end. So stick around until the end to test your understanding of these words!
Each word is helpful, but I want you to pay close attention to the example sentences. That’s where the real value is because that’s how you learn to speak naturally.

1. ሆድድ = stomach, belly
ሆዴ በጣም ጮኸ። My stomach rumbled loudly.
2. ሆቴል = hotel
እዚህ አካባቢ የሚመች ሆቴል አለ። There is a good hotel around here.
3. ሆስፒታል = hospital
በጠና ስለታመምኩ ወደ ሆስፒታል ሄድኩ። I went to the hospital because I was very sick.
4. ሆኗል = he/it became
የአየሩ ሁኔታ በጣም ቀዝቃዛ ሆኗል። The weather has become very cold.
5. ሆዳም = Gluttonous
በጣም ሆዳም አትሁን። Don’t be very gluttonous.
6. ሆኖ = to have been
o መረጃውን ቅንነት በጎደላቸው ሰዎች የተሰራጨ ሆኖ አገኘሁት። I found the information to have been spread by people who lack sincerity/integrity.
o ምን ሆኖ ነው? What happened to him?
o የሆነ ያልሆነ ምክንያት አትስጠኝ። Don’t give me all sorts of excuses.
7. ሆን ብለው = Deliberately
እነሱ ሆን ብለው የተሳሳተ መረጃ ለህዝብ ያሰራጫሉ። They deliberately spread inaccurate information among the population.
