14 Amharic basic words start with lu, li, & la

ሰላም፣ እንደት ናችሁ! Welcome back to the channel! Today, we’re exploring common Amharic words that begin with ሉ (Lu), ሊ (Li), and ላ (La). While words starting specifically with ‘ሉ’ and ‘ሊ’ are fewer and often appear in the middle or end of words instead of appearing at the beginning, I’ve also included some useful words that start with the letter ‘ላ’ (La). So in total, you’ll learn 14 essential words built on these three leters. Get ready to expand your Amharic vocabulary!

The Amharic Words start with ሉ (Lu), ሊ (Li), and ላ (La)
1. ሉህ (Luh) — writing tablet, board
• መምህሩ በሉህ ላይ ጻፉ። (Memhru beluh lay tsafu.)
The teacher wrote on the board.
2. ሉአላዊ (Lualawi) — sovereign, supreme
• ኢትዮጵያ ቅኝ ያልተገዛች ሉዓላዊ ሀገር ናት። (Ethiopia qgn yaltegezach lualawi hager nat.) Ethiopia is a sovereign country that was never colonized.
3. ሊቀመንበር (Liqemenber) — chairman
• የወረዳው ሊቀመንበር መግለጫ ሰጡ። (Yeweredaw liqemenber meglecha setu.)
The district chairman made a statement.
4. ሊዘንብ ይችላል (Lizenb yichilal) – It may rain
• ነገ ዝናብ ሊዘንብ ይችላል። (Nege znab lizenb ychlal.)
It might rain tomorrow.
5. ሊጥ (Lit) — dough
• እናቴ ቂጣ ለመመጋገር ሊጥ አቦካች። (Enatie qita lemegager lit abokach.)
My mother kneaded dough to bake flatbread.
6. ሊቅ (Liq) — scholar, expert
• እርሱ ታላቅ ሊቅ ነበር። (Irsu talaq liq neber.)
He was a great scholar.
7. ሊመጣ ይችላል (Limeta ychlal) — he/it might come
• እንግዳ ዛሬ ማታ ሊመጣ ይችላል። (Engida zarie mata limeta ychlal.)
A guest might come tonight.
8. ሊሳካ ይችላል (Lisaka ychlal) — it might succeed, it might be achieved
• ፕሮጀክቱ ሊሳካ ይችላል ብዬ አስባለሁ። (Projectu lisaka ychlal bye asbalehu.)
I think the project might succeed.

9. ላም (Lam) — cow
• ላም ወተት ትሰጣለች። (Lam wetet tsetalach.)
A cow gives milk.
10. ላባ (Laba) — feather
• ወፎች የሚያምር ላባ አላቸው። (Wefoch yemiyamr laba alachew.)
The birds have beautiful feathers.
11. ላከ (Lake) — he sent
• እሱ መልእክት ላከ። (Isu mele’kt lake.)
He sent a message.
12. ላብ (Lab) — sweat
• ለ30 ደቂቃ ከሮጥኩ በኋላ ላብ በላብ ሆንኩኝ። (Le 30 deqiqa Kerotku behuala lab belab honkugn.)
After I ran for 30 minutes, I was drenched in sweat.
13. ላጠች (Latech) — she peeled (fruit)
• እሷ ሽንኩርት ላጠች። (Esua shnkurt latech.)
She peeled an onion.
14. ላጨ (Lache) — he shaved (head)
• እሱ ፀጉሩን ላጨ። (Esu tsegurun lache.)
He shaved his hair.
