Amharic Self-introduction, Part 2: (ራስን ማስተዋወቅ / Rasn mastewaweq)

How do I introduce myself in Amharic? In this article, we will learn how to introduce ourselves easily in Amharic. Amharic conversational lessons for beginners: 

Introducing yourself in Amharic is very simple. For example: If your name is Hannah, you can say:

  • እኔ ሀና እባላለሁ። (Ene Hana ebalalehu.) My name is Hanah.
  • Or you can commit እኔ and say ሀና እባላለሁ። I am Hanah.
  • የምኖረው አሜሪካ ውስጥ ነው። (Yemnorew America wust new.) I live in America.

 Or you can say,

  • የመጣሁት ከአሜሪካ ነው። (Yemetahut keAmerica new.) I came from America.
  • እድሜየ ሀያ አምስት (25) ነው።
  • Edmeye haya amst new.
  • I am 25 years old.

 

  • ባለ ትዳር ነኝ።
  • Bale tidar negni.
  • I’m married.

 

  • ሁለት ልጆች አሉኝ።
  • Hulet lijoch alugn.
  • I have two children.

 

  • ትምህርት እስከ አስራ ሁለተኛ (12ተኛ) ክፍል ድረስ ተምሪያለሁ።
  • Tmhrt eske asra huletegna kifil dires temrialehu.
  • I studied up to twelfth (12th) class.

 

  • በጣም የምወደው የትምህርት አይነት ሒሳብ ነበር።
  • Betam yemiwedew yetmhrt aynet hisab neber.
  • My favorite subject was math.

 

  • ፊዚክስ ላይም ጎበዝ ተማሪ ነበርኩ።
  • Fiziks laym gobez temari neberku.
  • I was also an outstanding student at physics.

 

  • በትርፍ ጊዜየ ደግሞ የተለያዩ መፅሀፍትን ማንበብ እወድ ነበር።
  • Betirf gizeye degmo yeteleyayu metshaftn manbeb ewod neber.
  • In my free time, I used to like to read different books.

 

  • አሁን ደግሞ አማርኛ ቋንቋ እየተማርኩ ነው።
  • Ahun degmo Amarigna quanqua eyetemariku new.
  • Now I am learning the Amharic language.

 

  • የምተዳደረው የሹፍርና ስራ በመስራት ነው።
  • Yemetedaderew yeshufrna sra bemesrat new.
  • I make a living by working as a driver.

ራስን ማስተዋወቅ ማለት እንደዚህ ነው። That’s what self-promotion is all about.
