Amharic Reflexive Pronouns
This is the last part of the Amharic personal pronouns. Reflexive pronouns are referred to as “ድርብ ተውላጠ ስም” in Amharic.
The reason why they are called double pronouns is that they are placed after the regular pronouns. They become after the main pronouns. Look at the example table:

We use reflexive pronouns when we want to express something emphatically.
ምሣሌ:-
- አንተው ራስህ ልትሰራው ትችላለህ። You can do it yourself.
- እሱ ራሱን እና ሌሎችን ይረዳል። He treats himself and others.
- እሷ በአንድ አሰቃቂ ቀን ራሷን ወንበሯ ላይ ቁጭ ብላ አገኘችው። She found herself one dready day sitting at her desk.
- ድመታችን ምግብ ከበላች በኋላ ራሷን ታጥባለች። Our cat washes itself after each meal.
- እናንተ በራሳችሁ መተማመን አለባችሁ። You have to believe in yourselves.
- እኛ ብቻችንን ማውራት እንችላለን? Can we talk by ourselves?
- እነሱ የሚያስቡት ስለራሳቸው ነው። They think about themselves.

- እናንተ ለምን _____ትወቅሳላችሁ? Why do you blame____?
- እነሱ _______ይህንን ስህተት ብዙ ጊዜ ፈፅመውታል። They_____have made that mistake several times.
In this lesson, we’ve covered the Amharic reflexive pronouns. In the next lesson, we’ll learn other parts of pronouns, like demonstrative pronouns. They are very helpful also, because we use them in our daily lives.
