Quantitative Adjectives in English

Quantitative adjectives are adjectives that describe the quantity or amount of a noun. They help answer the question “ስንት (How much?)“ or “ምን ያህል (How many?)“ without giving an exact number.

Types of Quantitative Adjectives

Quantitative adjectives are generally categorized into two types:

1. Definite Quantitative Adjectives – Indicate a specific or exact number.
   • Examples: አንድ (one), ሁለት (two), ሶስት (three), አንድ መቶ (hundred), አንድ ሺ (thousand), መጀመሪያ፣ አንደኛ (first), ሁለተኛ (second)
   • Sentence: እሷ ሶስት ልጆች አሏት። She has three children.
2. Indefinite Quantitative Adjectives – Indicate an approximate or non-exact quantity.
   • Examples: አንዳንድ (some), ብዙ (many), ጥቂት (few), በርካታ (several), ሁሉም (all), በቂ (enough)
   • Sentence: በቤቱ ውስጥ ብዙ መጽሀፎች አሉ። (There are several books in the house.)

1. በኪሴ የተወሰነ ገንዘብ አለኝ። I have some money in my pocket.
2. በክፍል ውስጥ አስር ተማሪዎች አሉ። There are 10 students in the classroom.
3. ለሁሉም ሰው የሚበቃ ምግብ ያስፈልገናል. We need enough food for everyone.
