Quantitative Adjectives in English
Quantitative adjectives are adjectives that describe the quantity or amount of a noun. They help answer the question “ስንት (How much?)“ or “ምን ያህል (How many?)“ without giving an exact number.
Types of Quantitative Adjectives
Quantitative adjectives are generally categorized into two types:
- Definite Quantitative Adjectives – Indicate a specific or exact number.
- Examples: አንድ (one), ሁለት (two), ሶስት (three), አንድ መቶ (hundred), አንድ ሺ (thousand), መጀመሪያ፣ አንደኛ (first), ሁለተኛ (second)
- Sentence: እሷ ሶስት ልጆች አሏት። She has three children.
- Indefinite Quantitative Adjectives – Indicate an approximate or non-exact quantity.
- Examples: አንዳንድ (some), ብዙ (many), ጥቂት (few), በርካታ (several), ሁሉም (all), በቂ (enough)
- Sentence: በቤቱ ውስጥ ብዙ መጽሀፎች አሉ። (There are several books in the house.)

- በኪሴ የተወሰነ ገንዘብ አለኝ። I have some money in my pocket.
- በክፍል ውስጥ አስር ተማሪዎች አሉ። There are 10 students in the classroom.
- ለሁሉም ሰው የሚበቃ ምግብ ያስፈልገናል. We need enough food for everyone.
