Amharic Parts of Speech
Amharic Adverbs
An adverb is a word that comes before a verb and describes the nature of the clause or the verb.
An adverb is not only used to describe the behavior of a verb but also used to describe the behavior of other parts of speech, like adjectives and other adverbs in Amharic. It is the same with the English adverbs too. Example:
(ሀ) When describes a verb:
- ፈለቀ በትጋት / ተግቶ ይማራል! (Feleqe learns diligently!)
- ፈለቀ ክፉኛ ታሟል። (Feleke is seriously ill.)
(ለ) When used with an adjective
- እርሱ በጣም ረጅም ነው። He is very tall.
(ሐ) When used with an adverb:
- አስተማሪው ሁልጊዜ ተግቶ ያስተምራል። The teacher always teaches diligently.
(መ) When it comes with a preposition:
- እሱ በቀጥታ ወደ እኔ መጣ። He came directly to me.
