Characteristics of Amharic adjectives
Let’s see two factors about Amharic adjectives.
- Amharic adjectives come before and after nouns, after pronouns, before be verbs, and after main verbs. Most of the time, they precede the noun they describe. For example:
- እሱ ጎበዝ ተማሪ ነው። He is an outstanding student.
- እሷ ጥሩ ሰው ናት። She is a good-hearted woman.
- ይሄ አሪፍ ነው። This one is good.
- ይህን ነገር የሚያውቀው ብልህ ሰው ብቻ ነው። Only a wise person knows this.
- ቴክኖሎጅ ወሳኝ እና ጨዋታ ቀያሪ ነው። Technology is crucial and a game changer.
2. Adjectives can be singular or plural, just like nouns. For example:

- እዚህ ሰፈር የሚያማምሩ ቤቶች አሉ። There are beautiful houses in this neighborhood.
- እሱ ሰነፍ ነው። He is lazy.
- እነሱ ሰነፎች ናቸው። They are lazy.
- እሷ ሰነፍ ናት። She is lazy.
- ትላልቆቹን ዛፎች ቁረጣቸው። Cut down the big trees.
- ትላልቁን ዛፍ ቁረጠው። Cut down the big trees.
