You’ll then get a short sample sentence showing how you can combine these words to make a sentence, such as እኔ ያእቆብ እባላለሁ። (My name is Jacob.) And finally, you’ll also get a short quiz to check your understanding.

• ሱቅ ውስጥ ነው የምሰራው። (I work at a shop.) ስራ (Work)
• በትርፍ ጊዜዬ ማንበብ እወዳለሁ። (In my free time, I like to read.) ጊዜ ማሳለፊያ (Hobby)

There are more than three ways to introduce your name in Amharic. E.g..

1. ስሜ ዳሽ ይባላል። My name is Dash.
2. እኔ እከሌ እባላለሁ። I am Ekelie.
3. የእኔ ስም ዳሽ ነው። My name is Dash.
4. እከሌ ነኝ። I am Ekelie.

እከሌ (Ekelie) is a common word we use to replace a name or a pronoun, but it is for males. For female, we say “እከሊት / Ekelit”; for things, we say “እንትን / Entn.” These pronouns are very common.
