Useful Amharic Words Starting with Mu (በ ሙ የሚጀምሩ ጠቃሚ አማርኛ ቃላት!)

In this lesson, we’ll learn very basic Amharic words that start with ሙ, the second letter of the መ/Me family.

  1. ሙቀት (Muqet) – Heat, warmth
  • ዛሬ ሙቀቱ ሃይለኛ ሆኗል። (Zare muqetu haylegna honual.) – The heat is intense today.

2. ሙሽራው (Mushraw) – The groom

  • ሙሽራው እና ሙሽሪት ዛሬ ይመጣሉ። (Mushraw ina mushrit zare yemetalu.) – The groom and the bride are coming today.

3. ሙሉ በሙሉ (Mulu bemulu) Completely, entirely

  • በጣም በሚያሳዝን ሁኔታ አገሪቱ ሙሉ በሙሉ ወድማለች። (Betam bemiyasazen huneta ageritu mulu beMulu wedmalech.) – Unfortunately, the country is completely destroyed.

4. ሙያ (Muya)—profession, skill, craft

  • እሷ ጥሩ ሙያ አላት። (Eswa turu muya alat.) – She has a good profession (or skill).

5. ሙከራ (Mukera) – Test, attempt, trial, experiment

  • ገና ሙከራ ላይ ነን። ሆኖም ግን ሙከራው የሚሳካ አይመስለኝም። (Gena mukera lay nen. Honom gin mukeraw yemissaka aymeslegnim.) – We are still in the testing phase. However, I don’t think the attempt will succeed.

6. ሙዝ (Muz) – Banana

  • አንድ ኪሎ ሙዝ ስንት ብር ነው? (And kilo muz sint bir new?) – How much is one kilo of bananas?

7. ሙግት (Mugt) – Argument, debate, dispute

  • እኔ ሙግት አልፈልግም። (Ene mugt alfelgm.) – I don’t want an argument.

8. ሙጭጭ አለ (muchich ale)—He/it stuck with/on something

  • ልጁ የእናቱን እጅ ይዞ ሙጭጭ አለ። (Lju ye-enatun ej yzo muchich ale.) – The child held his mother’s hand tightly (or clung).

9. ሙሽሪት (Mushrit) – The bride

  • ሙሽሪት ዛሬ በጣም ደስተኛ ትመስላለች። (Mushrit zare betam destegna tmeslalech.) – The bride seems very happy today.

10. ሙጫ (Mucha) – Glue, adhesive

  • ወረቀቶቹን በሙጫ አጣብቅ። (Wereqetochun bemucha atabq.) – Stick the papers with glue.
